I haven't installed either yet (I'm way behind on my software installs at the moment), so I'm not sure yet whether you'll be able to have both iMovie '08 and iMovie HD 6 installed side-by-side. But if you can, that would certainly be the most ideal situation. If not, I suppose you'll have to pick sides on which set of features means the most to you. If I do get around to installing both (hopefully later today), I'll update this post with my findings. Or you can tell us in the comments.

The existing version of iMovie HD '06 in my PowerBook G4 and MacBook Pro was version 6.0.3. After finding out the 'free' version of iMovie HD '06 through a thread in Apple Discussion Board, I installed it on my MacBook Pro. Upon further inspections, I finally noticed that the version provided was iMovie HD 6.0.4.

I attempted iMovie HD 6.0.4 installation on my PowerBook G4, without installing iLife '08 first. The installer specifically requires iLife '08 to be installed first before iMovie HD 6.0.4 can be installed.
